Russell Barkley, PhD.
Are ADHD symptoms making day-to-day life difficult? Are you trying your best, but still not managing as well as you want? Do you feel like you've heard all the strategies but they just don't work for you? Do you ever think maybe you're just lazy, or not trying hard enough?
ADHD is a neurologically-based processing disorder, not a character defect! Most people with ADHD know what they should be doing. The challenge and frustration comes in the implementation - or lack thereof. We want to be living well-managed lives, and often put unrealistic expectations on ourselves to be able to achieve that with willpower. When you're dealing with ADHD it's not about willpower, it's biology! I help my clients identify the exact issues that create roadblocks in their strategy implementation so that we can tackle those in order to create systems that work. We work with the ADHD brain instead of trying to make it conform to the expectations of a neurotypical one.
Our ADHD management counselling is designed to give you practical tools to set you up for success in taking back control and creating the life you want!
Learn ways to reduce ADHD's negative impact on your work, home, and social life through better symptom management. We strategize how to target your unique challenges and go beyond just learning techniques to learning their practical application in your individual circumstances.
Teens want to be independent, and we want that for them too! We help teens and their parents/caregivers navigate the transition of responsibility from parent to child, and work with teens to help them learn how to manage their ADHD symptoms independently. Our goal is to help teens create habits and strategies that will set them up for success and be carried with them into the future.
When it comes to school-aged children, ADHD is a family affair! These therapy sessions are for the child and at least one parent or caregiver. We work together to identify challenging areas, strategize solutions, and outline each person's role and responsibilities in those solutions. We also navigate the important gradual transition of responsibilities from parents and caregivers to the child.
